Plop.

There it goes. It was almost like a slow motion scene from a scary film where you had to sit there and watch and could do nothing about the horror that was about to take place.

But it was too late.

Don’t Panic

One of the first things people do as soon as their phone gets wet is to panic. Your first instinct may be to give it CPR, or mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

These things aren’t going to work — and neither will blow-drying your phone or sticking it in the oven. It may seem intuitive to counteract the wetness by making your phone dry with heat, but this will actually do more damage to the electrical wiring inside.

Instead, calmly dry your phone with a towel as best as you can and be sure there is no lingering water anywhere that’s visible.

Save The Rice For Dinner

The interweb swears up-and-down by the do-it-yourself dry rice trick for moisture-damaged phones. The idea here is that placing your wet phone into a bag of dry, uncooked rice will allow the little rice grains to absorb the moisture from the phone and make it just like new.

However, there are some out there who say that drying your phone out on the counter works just as well, with that added perk of not having to peel sticky rice out of the crevices of your phone.

Letting your phone dry on its own will probably be just fine, which means you can save the rice for something else (stir-fry, anyone?) and instead bring your phone in to the experts for a quick fix that is tried and true.
